I bought this book to keep me company during some lengthy air travel and was not at all disappointed in the quality of the stories. Three of them are from the Commonwealth universe, and two of these are Paula Myo police mysteries. The others are all stand-alone, the best of which I believe to be Watching Trees Grow. This story takes us into a very interesting universe, one I hope the author will expand on with future stories. I highly recommend both this collection and A Second Chance at Eden, an earlier collection from the same author.Product details

Peter Hamilton shows his mettle at a few short stories, well written, with clever plots and well assembled. The last one is definitely the best, but they are all enjoyable. Recommended for all
Not short stories by any standard, except one. But each story is nice and has its own flavor. I would love to see an expanded book on the alternate history/future world created in "Watching trees grow".
A collection of short stories from the master himself. Some knowledge of the Commonwealth will help to place the characters better especially Paula herself... But even if you haven't read his books, you'll still love this one.
Peter F Hamilton has set the benchmark a lot higher for himself. His previous achievements were excellent, well constructed and long enough to really get to know his characters. Manhattan in Reverse was too short and didn't fully reach it's expected potential. Interesting setting, imaginative timeline, great interplay between old and new characters...but too short.
It is impossible to give a whole book that contains a compilation of different stories 5 stars - but there are certainly some 5 star stories in this collection. Those stories that aren't 5 stars are at least a 3 or 4 in anyone's scale.
The writing throughout is clever and invites the reader to conjure up their own mental images and empathy.
The Paula Myo story is a cracker written with Hamilton's invariable subtle (or not so subtle) political commentary thrown in for good measure. I liked it - yes sir - I liked it a lot.
This is not the short story Manhattan in Reverse from the collection of the same name. This is the entire collection. Very enjoyable.
Peter F. Hamilton remains my MOST FAVORITE contemporary sci-fi author. He writes with clarity in a breezy easy-to-read style... skilfully weaving different threads together that ultimately hits the jackpot with a well-conceived ending-finale. He also builds his characters and flesh them out.
All-in-all, he's definitely a MASTER of contemporary science fiction.
